The mission of Grate Chef president Keith Aldredge is to lower backyard barbecuers’ exposure to polycyclic
aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) and heterocyclic amines (HCA), cancer-causng chemical reactions that can
occur when meat is grilled over high heat.
Enter Grill Wipes, heavy-duty, disposable wipes that simultaneously clean and oil the grates. Made from
the same fabric that protects military pilots from aircraft fire, Grill Wipes are flame-retardant and selfextinguishing.
They remove leftoer carbon and burnt food and leave behind a clean oil residue. The oil, in
turn, mean food won’t stick.
Grill Wipes come in packages of six and retail for $2.99.

These wipes, made from biodegradable cellulose, are designed for cleaning a grill grate while it’s heating
up. You put one on a wire grill brush and scrape, and it cleans and oils in one step. The oil is designed to
give nice grill marks as well as prevent sticking. How’s that for handy?
